THE sight of Golden Retriever Shadow bravely limping up the garden at the end of Homeward Bound is enough to melt even the hardest of hearts.
The Disney flick, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this month, is a 90s classic loved by Millennials - and their parents - across the world.
It followed the incredible journey of wise hound Shadow, selfish American Bulldog Chance and the aptly named Himalayan cat Sassy.
Fearing their owners had left them behind when they went on a trip away, the trio embarked on an adventure through the mountainous Sierra Nevada to find them.
The film was so popular they made a sequel in 1996 - Homeward Bound II: Lost in San Francisco.
Hollywood stars leant their voices to the animals - but what happened next for them, and the actors who played the Burnford-Seaver family?
Sally Field - Sassy
Hollywood sweetheart Sally was already a household name when she voiced Sassy (real name Tikki) the Himalayan cat who lives up to her namesake.
The same year as Homeward Bound she played the wife of Robin Williams' character in Mrs Doubtfire.
Other film roles to her name include Forrest Gump, Legally Blonde 2, Eye for an Eye, The Amazing Spider-Man and Lincoln.
This year she was awarded the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award.

Sally shares two sons with her first husband Steven Craig, and dated Burt Reynolds in the late 70s. She married her second husband Alan Greisman in 1984 and had another son, but they split in 1994.
In 2005 Sally was diagnosed with osteoporosis and launched a campaign for better treatment for people with the condition.
In 2018 she published her memoir In Pieces, where she revealed she was sexually abused for years as a child by her stepfather and had a secret abortion in Mexico aged 17.
She admitted she remained quiet about it for so long because “I didn't know I had a voice”.
Now 76, Sally is a dedicated social activist - she was even arrested in December 2019 while attending Jane Fonda's weekly Friday climate change protests in Washington, D.C.
She is also an advocate for LGBTQ rights - her youngest son Samuel is gay.
Michael J. Fox - Chance
Michael's character Chance, the naughty but loveable bulldog, is the star of the show - the film is told through his voice as he also narrates it.
The Canadian actor was already a star from Back to the Future, Teen Wolf and Doc Hollywood.
Tragically the star was diagnosed withParkinson's disease - the degenerative neural condition - in 1991 aged just 29.
He continued to act in The American President and the Tim Burton classic Mars Attacks! as well as starring in the TV sitcom Spin City.
Seven years after his diagnosis he went public with his health battle and, as his symptoms worsened, moved to voice roles, playing Stuart Little in the hit franchise and the lead in the animation A.R.C.H.I.E.
He fronted his own show, The Michael J. Fox Show, in 2013 and guest-starred in TV shows including The Good Wife.
The actor, now 61, became an advocate for research in Parkinson’s and set up the Michael J. Fox Foundation in 2000, with the aim of finding a cure.
He has been married to Tracy Pollan, who he met on the set of Family Ties, since 1988 and they have four kids.
Don Ameche - Shadow
Don Ameche played Shadow in the first Homeward Bound movie, but passed away 10 months after its release aged 85 in December 1993.
He was a major radio star in the early 1930s, and branched out into movies.
Father-of-six Don, who was married to Honore Prendergast from 1932 until she died in 1986, had dozens of credits under his belt - Shadow proved to be his penultimate role.
Don was replaced by Ralph Waite in the second Homeward Bound film - best known for his role as John Walton Sr. on The Waltons.
Robert Hays - Bob Seaver
Robert - who played head of the family Bob Seaver - rose to prominence as an actor in the 80s, co-starring in the sitcom Angie and as Ted Striker in spoof flick Airpline!.
Since Homeward Bound he's voiced Tony Stark on Iron Man and had a guest role as Bud Hyde on That '70s Show.
He's continued to act sporadically over the years, but suffered a near life-changing injury in 1998 during a freak body surfing accident.
Robert bumped the bottom and shattered the dens on his C2 - the second vertebrae down from the skull.
He was lucky to survive, and managed to keep his neck in the right position until he got to hospital, saving himself from paralysis.
Robert was married to singer Cherie Currie from 1990 to 1997, and they share a son, Jake.
Kim Greist - Laura Burnford-Seaver
Kim worked predominantly in the 80s and 90s as both an actress and a model.
After Homeward Bound she only appeared in a handful more films before she retired from acting in 2001.
At 64, she's now believed to live a very low key life in her hometown of Stamford, Connecticut, and was absent from a recent reunion.
Veronica Lauren - Hope
Now 42, Veronica is unrecognisable from her role as Hope - proud owner of Sassy the cat.
As well as the film's sequel, credits include The Grass Harp, Charlie's Ghost Story and American Pie - as one of the jazz girls.
She's also had roles on TV shows including Buffy the Vampire Slayer, US soap Days of Our Lives, Home Improvement and Cold Case, and appears to still be acting.
Little is known about her private life but she now goes by Veronica Lauren Sawyer.
Benj Thall - Peter
Benj played Peter, the eldest of the Burnford-Seaver kids, and owner of Shadow.
While he remains best known for Homeward Bound, Benj, 44, still works in the industry, having produced, directed and written various short films as well as notching up a few more acting credits.
He, along with a number of his co-stars, attended a 30th anniversary screening and live panel event at El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood this month, and often shares nostalgic photos from the film on his Instagram.
Benj - who recently celebrated his 15-year anniversary with partner Amy - lives in LA, is a keen marathon runner and proud owner of Twila the Golden Doodle.
Kevin Chevalia - Jamie
Kevin, now 36, played Jamie - owner of cheeky Chance, who often wound up his sister by taunting Sassy.
He starred in both Homeward Bound movies, but appears to have since left acting behind.
He attended Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan between 2004 and 2008 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree.
According to his Facebook page he now works as a locomotive engineer and lives in Indiana.
Jean Smart - Kate
When the Burnford-Seavers travel to San Francisco for Bob's job, their ranch is left in the care of Kate, Laura's friend from college.
In 1993 actress Jean Smart, now 71, was most famous for her role on CBSsitcomDesigning Women, but went on to win two Emmys for playing Lana Gardner on Frasier, and star in films The Brady Bunch Movie, Sweet Home Alabama and The Accountant.
She's also appeared on TV shows 24, Fargo, Watchmen and more recently, Mare of Easttown and Hacks.
Jean stars alongside Margot Robbie in her latest film, Babylon.
In March 2021 she lost her husband of 34 years, actor Richard Gilliland, with whom she shares two children, after a brief illness.
Jean refers to herself as an "industrial strength" diabetic and admitted her gynaecologist was "livid" when she fell pregnant with their son Connor, now in his thirties.
She had to consistently monitor her blood sugar levels to ensure Connor was developing properly.
They adopted their daughter Bonnie from China when she was 10 months old in 2009.
Bart the Bear
During their exploits in the wilderness, Chance has a scary encounter with a bear - whose real name was Bart.
The 9ft tall Alaskan brown bear was trained by Doug Seus and, believe it or not, enjoyed a remarkable stint in Hollywood before he died in 2000 of cancer.

He began his 'acting career' in 1980 and also starred in The Great Outdoors, One Deadly Ground and The Edge.
Bart's co-stars over the years - which include Anthony Hopkins, Steven Seagal, John Candy and Alec Baldwin - all remarked on how impressive his talents were.
