Guide for My Time at Portia (2024)

Your Workshop

The Workshop is the central point to this whole game. You'll be taken here by Presley at the start of the game. Presley will also give you a Workbook, which contains some of the Assembly Station blueprints. At the start, your Workshop will have:

  • Your House
  • An Assembly Station
  • A Worktable
  • A Mailbox
  • A Resource Box

Your House is just that, your house. You sleep here and start each day here. Sleeping recovers your health and stamina, but when you first get here, there’s a few holes in the house you need to repair before you fully recover stamina. The start of the Story Walkthrough page tells you what to do.

You can upgrade your house 4 times, but for the purpose of this walkthrough, you only need upgrade the house to Level 2, which will then allow you to marry an eligible NPC. You’ll also be able to have a pet (but that’s possible in a Level 1 house).

You will be adopting a pet and marrying someone for an achievement, and all information about that is on the Relationships with NPCs page.

In your house is the Home Panel. This gives all the information about any furniture you have in your house, and the bonuses it gives you. It’s to the left of the front door (inside your house). You can find furniture in the Ruins, and sometimes you get it as gifts, and you can craft furniture. Adding it to your home is a great way to add stat boosts to you. If you want to see if an item will give you a stat boost, look at the item in your Inventory (from the Guide for My Time at Portia (1) button].

House Upgrades

Below are the upgrades for all 4 Levels of house. The upgrade costs are the base amount, and do not take into account any perks. You upgrade your house from A&G Construction Catalog, that’s on Albert’s Desk. If you increase your relationship with Albert, it will lower the material cost of upgrades, and with Gust (who you will be), the Gol cost will be reduced.

Level 2

Materials Needed:

  • 20 Hardwood Planks
  • 20 Bronze Bars
  • 10000 Gols

The benefits of this upgrade are:

  • Max HP +200
  • Max SP +100
  • Max Attack +60
  • Max Defence +60
  • Unlocks Marriage

The spoiler below has Levels 3 and 4, and as they’re not explicitly needed for the game’s achievements, you don’t need to do them if you don’t want to.

Yard

The Yard is where you’ll find your Assembly Station and Worktable at the start of the game. It’s also a good place to put your crafting stations when you have them.

Yard Expansion

You’ll be able to upgrade your Yard, by interacting with the signposts just outside your yard. It cost Gols, but can be made cheaper if you improve your relationship with Gale, the Mayor.

Expansion Level 2 - Costs 1500 Gols.

Expansion Level 3 – Cots 15000 Gols.

Expansion Level 4 – Costs 30000 Gols.

Expansion Level 5 – Costs 100000 Gols.

Expansion Level 6 – Costs 160000 Gols.

Expansion Level 7 – Costs 250000 Gols.

The total upgrade cost, at it’s maximum, is 556500 Gols. For purchasing all of the Yard Expansions, you’ll unlock the following achievement

  • Real Estate Tycoon

Expand the land area of the workshop to the maximum.

I'd recommend purchasing the final expansion, when you're able to, and then once the achievement unlocks, reload the day. It's a lot of money to spend, and you're better off using it in other ways in the long run.

Other Buildings

There are a few other buildings available to build (from A&G Construction):

  • Coop
  • Shed
  • Stable
  • Factory

The only two that may be worth investing in building are the Stable and the Factory. The Stable is useful because it will allow you to have a Mount (either a Llama or a Horse) meaning you can get around a fair bit quicker. The Factory is beneficial for late-game progress.

Below is all the information for the Stable and the Factory. The material and Gols cost can be reduced by improving your relationship with Albert and Gust respectively.

Stable

You are only able to have one stable, but that’s all you need. Having a Stable allows you to have up to three owned mounts (a combination of Llamas and Horses). You can buy Horses from McDonald’s Stable (which is available upon completing the secondary mission, as well as being able to rent a horse), and Llamas are caught in trap boxes. The spoiler below gives some information about the available mounts:

To build a stable, you need to go to A&G Construction with the following materials and Gols:

  • 20 Iron Bar
  • 20 Stone Brick
  • 5000 Gols

You will need space in your yard to place the Stable. It may be beneficial to wait until you’ve upgraded the Yard twice, as you’ll have enough space then.

If you purchase a Horse, for example, you will need to feed them. This is done by interacting with the Stable, and adding food to the Stable’s inventory. I personally used 30 Apples, and filled up every so often.

Factory

The Factory is a late-game building that is unlocked upon completing all of the Portia Harbor Missions. You’ll be informed via the mailbox when it’s available to build. You can only have one Factory in your Workshop, and it has two levels – it starts at Level 1, and you can upgrade it to Level 2.

In order to build the Factory, you’ll need to go to A&G Construction with the following materials and Gols:

  • 20 Composite Wooden Board
  • 20 Aluminium Plate
  • 2 Advanced Engine
  • 50000 Gols

If you want to upgrade the Factory to Level 2, it requires:

  • 10 Aluminium Plate
  • 10 Copper Wire
  • 1 AI Chipset
  • 50000 Gols

Upgrading to Level 2 increasing the internal space of the Factory. The spoiler below gives some useful information about how to use the Factory.

There are 4 items that are crafted in a Factory:

  • Advanced Composite Board
    Requires: 1 x Cutter
    Materials: 5 x Hardwood, 1 x Ironwood, 1 x Purple Resin
  • Gear
    Requires: 1 x Grinder, 8 x Furnace
    Materials: 20 x Iron Ore, 12 x Wood
  • Steel Ball
    Requires: 1 x Grinder, 3 x Furnace
    Materials: 6 x Iron Ore, 3 x Wood
  • Titanium Bar
    Requires: 1 x Furnace
    Materials: 5 x Titanium Ore, 2 x Crystal

Factory Production Speed Upgrades

In addition to the physical upgrade of the Factory, it is also possible to upgrade how quickly the Auto Workstation can produce items. That is done by upgrading the Automation Controls. You do this by purchasing Research Notes from the Research Center Exchange with Data Discs. To fully upgrade the production speed, you will need 55 Data Discs.
