Going to school at York Institute has truly been a mixed bag. There are a handful of teachers that care about their student's futures and work hard to prepare them, others seem to be treading water waiting only for their paychecks and ultimate retirements. Sports are celebrated while other extracurriculars fall by the wayside. Woe be unto you if you happen to identify with the LGBTQ+ community. Diversity is generally not something students or faculty consider. Ultimately, this is a very conservative school in a very financially depressed area. They tend to focus on football and farming, leaving many students underserved and underappreciated.

My overall experience with my high school was great, the atmosphere and support system is beyond what you would expect for a high school. And, I just hope that remains the same for years to come. Only thing I would change is the facilities for sports.

It was a very small school, so everyone knew everyone. The faculty was also very nice and always willing to help. However, the change I would like to see is growth. Recently the school has expanded and gained more sports teams and class opportunities. I hope it continues to grow!
