17 Genius DIY Power Tool Storage Ideas (1)

I have a tiny workshop. It's in the basem*nt, in a converted one car garage space with ceilings that are barely seven feet tall and walls that are covered with conduit, heating ducts and pipes.

Even though I don't have a ton of space, I've managed to fit almost every tool I could need into this small area! Even some of those "nice to have" tools like a jointer and planer have a spot in my tiny woodshop.

Even if you don't have a full workshop like I do, sometimes you just want a better way to prevent your tools from becoming a jumble of power cords and sharp blades on the floor. Or maybe you're tired of searching for the charger for that cordless drill battery that's hidden under a pile of junk in the garage.

If that sounds like you, you've come to the right place! I've put together a list of DIY power tool storage ideas that will help get you organized!

Circular Saw Storage Rack

My corded circular saw was a tangled mess, and I worried that sideways pressure on the blade would knock it out of alignment over time.

This circular saw storage rack is so simple, I can't believe I didn't make it sooner!

It allows the circular saw to rest flat on its base, keeps the cord contained and protects the blade from damage.

DIY Nail Gun Organizer with Drawer

Brad nailers, pin nailers and staplers are essential in the workshop. The problem is that they all look the same and the nails were scattered in various drawers and cabinets!

This DIY nail gun organizer solves this problem by keeping all of your tools in one place with clear labels to make it easier to grab the right one. It also has a drawer underneath to keep your nails sorted by length and size.

DIY Cordless Drill Storage Rack

Keep your drills, batteries and chargers all in one place with this DIY cordless drill storage rack! This project would be perfect for any homeowner who is tired of hunting down their drill or charged batteries! Best of all, it's a really quick and easy project that can be completed with a few cuts!

Sander and Sandpaper Storage

Always have the right sandpaper on hand with this sander and sandpaper storage rack! Each type of sander has its own sandpaper organizer above it, ready for your next project.

This sander and sandpaper storage has enough space for three sanders and five sandpaper grits each! You can easily change the dimensions for a single sander instead.

This miter saw stand can also be used as a workbench, and is easy to customize to fit your space. I added an extended fence and stop block system to make repeatable cuts easily. The shop vacuum fits perfectly between two sets of shelves to provide dust collection for the miter saw.

I have since built a newer version (which you'll see below), but this is a great option if you are just starting out.

DIY Planer Stand with Storage

A benchtop planer can really step up your woodworking game, but it's such a hassle to move around in a tiny workshop.

This compact DIY planer stand rolls under the workbench when not in use, and features two deep drawers for extra storage inside the sturdy base.

DIY Tool Stand with Sander Lift

When you have a small workshop, you have to get creative with power tool storage. Many woodworkers build a flip top tool stand with two tools connected to the top and bottom of a platform that spins and locks into place.

But I wanted to keep the top surface clear for cutting at the miter saw, so I came up with this idea instead. It uses a mixer lift that slides the tool under the work surface, but pops up in seconds! It's the perfect storage solution for a benchtop sander like this one.

DIY Table Saw Stand

Add extra support and tons of storage to your table saw with this amazing DIY table saw stand!

I designed this DIY table saw stand to fully support a crosscut sled, and made the top out of melamine so it can slide smoothly. The table saw fits flush with the surface and has a drawer underneath to catch sawdust.

DIY Router Table

This DIY router table features two drawers for storage, and it rolls under the miter saw station to save space when it's not in use. It's quite a step up from the collapsible router table on the makeshift benchtop tool stand I used to have, and it takes up less space too!

DIY T Track Table with Storage

This DIY T track table does it all! It features a T track top for clamping so you can use it as a workbench too! The shelves are perfect for storing power tool boxes and systainers, and small parts bins keep all your screws organized.
